We recently assisted an agricultural sector customer seeking to build a casting piece featuring small grinding ports for mounting various other application pieces. They approached us due to our history and experience on grinding ports accurately. We were also local to the customer’s site of operations.
The design of the casting specified Nickel-Hard alloy, a tough material that requires appropriate tooling. A 42” Blanchard Grinder was used to grind opening and specified surfaces of the casting, which featured overall dimensions of 2-7/8” by 13-5/8” by 15-3/4”. Ground surfaces were finished to 63 micro and dimensional tolerances were held to ±0.015”.
On a lead time of 4 to 5 days, 36 pieces were process, ground appropriately, inspected, and delivered direct. Our work was well received by the customer, who continues to come to us for additional jobs.
